very often i am asked if i am in college. i set these people straight and say, “no no i have a degree.” i bet they wonder what i am doing cashing their paychecks every week. did i go to school for finance? nope. English. i chose English because i like literature and i like to write. i like to get lost in elaborate stories about another time or place and then think about them for days. i like words. i like sentences and quotations and the way that you can read and reread words that someone else wrote years and years ago and it still makes you think or feel something right now.
i have a nice degree on the wall and i can diagram the crap out of a sentence. also, i can count cash like you wouldn’t believe, while people are buzzing in obnoxiously at the drive up and i am singing to myself.
